Aloha Friends,
It has been my privilege and honor to represent the 5th District of South and West Maui in the Legislature for the past six years as your State Senator and to work on issues that matter to you, your family and our community. Together, we’ve worked to improve our schools, create new opportunities for our youth, fight cancer, lend a hand to those less fortunate and malama this place we call home. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

Hospital developer Brian Hoyle and
Senator Roz Baker review plans for the
critical access acute care facility in
West Maui.
During the 16 years I’ve served you in the Legislature, I’ve focused on delivering solid results for Maui and our state. Working with other Legislators, the Administration and the community, I have been able to address some tough issues and solve pressing problems. This past Legislative session was no exception. As part of a Senate team who fights and wins for Maui, I secured:
- the
initial $20,000,000 to develop Kihei High School
- over $16,000,000
for a new cafeteria for Lahainaluna High School
- funding for new
facilities and renovations at all district schools
- new facilities for Maui Community College.
I’ve fought for
- improved access to healthcare,
- obtained
funding for an ambulance company stationed in Wailea
- Medivac
helicopter services for Maui County
- and many improvements at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
I championed passage of Hawaii’s Clean Indoor Air Act that prohibits smoking in work places and public places, landmark legislation for a healthier Hawai`i. I am a strong advocate for
- our environment,
- workforce housing for our families
- and charting our path toward energy self-sufficiency.
As Chair of Senate’s money committee, I have a unique opportunity to ensure that Maui’s infrastructure and other needs are addressed even in challenging economic times. Completing the Lahaina Bypass and Honoapiilani widening/realignment are major priorities. With over $100,000,000 dedicated to West Maui highways we’re off to a good start. We’ll need more State and federal fund to get the job done.
There is certainly more to do: for our children and families, to manage traffic and ensure quality healthcare for all, including community-based long term care and a hospital on the West side. That’s why I am running for re-election to the State Senate. I want to continue to work with you and for you to make our community an even safer, healthier and better place. Now more than ever our district needs the proven legislative ability and experience, problem-solving skills, and independent and balanced approach that I bring to this office. I ask for your kokua and your to continue moving Maui and our state forward. In the upcoming election, I humbly ask for your vote to continue fighting for you at the Capitol.
Your support and your vote for Roz Baker in the upcoming elections are appreciated. Mahalo nui loa!
Me ke aloha pumehana,
State Senator
5th District – South and West Maui
